The situation
The situation
protagon.gr is an established news site with high traffic and a demanding design.
On a news portal the number that matters is not average traffic; it is the moment a story breaks and readership multiplies within minutes. That is where infrastructure is judged.
What we built
What we built
Custom CDN on NGINX cache
Our own cache servers rather than an external service, so cache behaviour is something we control.
Separate admin servers
Writing and publishing never competes with readers for resources.
Load balancers with floating IPs
Traffic redirected without a DNS change and without waiting for propagation.
Instant deploy web servers
Web servers added immediately when traffic spikes.
